DEIB Committee
The Junior League of Sarasota (JLS) is dedicated to fostering diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) within our organization and the communities we serve. We recognize the systemic injustices faced by Black women and other women of color, and we are committed to taking action to eliminate racism and promote equity and inclusion.
IN SOLIDARITY WITH INTERNATIONAL LEAGUES
As a member of the Association of Junior Leagues International, we stand in solidarity with our sister Leagues in condemning discrimination, racism, and racial injustice. We are committed to accelerating our efforts to advance definitive, measurable policies and practices that eliminate racism in our communities and within our organization. When we do this, we unlock tremendous power for our communities and realize our vision of women around the world as catalysts for lasting change.

- Increase diversity within our membership and leadership positions
- Implement training and educational programs to promote understanding and awareness of DEIB issues
- Foster partnerships with local organizations that share our commitment to DEIB
- Advocate for policies and practices that promote equity and inclusion in our community

DEIB MILESTONES & HISTORY

In 2020, the Junior League of Sarasota strategically implemented a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Initiative Task Force, which later led to the adoption of our Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) Statement. We continued to make progress on our DEI commitment, adding “Belonging,” establishing our first DEI committee, and installing our first-ever DEIB Vice President in 2023.
In 2024, JLS invested $5,128 in DEIB member training programs, organized nine unique training events attended by 104 members, and saw three JLS members serve in DEIB leadership roles. Members heard from multiple guest speakers at monthly General Membership Meetings and our annual leadership training retreat.
In 2024, our DEIB Committee was recognized for their hard work and awarded the “Team of the Year” honor.
JLS continues to promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging today. We actively engage in initiatives to address systemic inequalities and promote inclusivity within our organization and the Sarasota Community. From hosting educational events and training to partnering with local organizations, we are committed to advancing DEIB principles and creating positive change.
