You are cordially invited to join us for the 22nd Annual Legacy Luncheon at Michael’s On East on Wednesday, February 26, 2025. This year, we are delighted to present Academy Award winning-actress and advocate for people with disabilities, Marlee Matlin as our speaker!
Deaf since she was 18 months old, Marlee made her acting debut playing Sarah Norman in the romantic drama film, Children of a Lesser God, becoming the youngest Academy Award recipient for Best Actress at age 21, while also receiving the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Drama.
Her Apple TV+ film CODA swept every category it was nominated in at the 2022 Academy Awards, including Best Picture. Marlee has also starred in numerous television projects, including Seinfeld, The West Wing, and Law and Order SVU. In addition to her film, TV, and stage work,
Marlee released her first app, titled Marlee Signs, teaching American Sign Language to millions of smart phone users. She has also penned three novels for children, as well as her New York Times best- selling autobiography, I’ll Scream Later.
In 1994, Marlee was appointed by President Clinton to the Corporation for National Service and in 2010, Marlee joined the White House in ceremonies celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Despite the odds, Marlee’s journey is an inspiration to everyone, regardless of the barriers they face.
Since 2003, Legacy Luncheon has served as the signature fundraiser for the Junior League of Sarasota Endowment Fund. Through this fund, thousands of dollars are awarded each year to local nonprofits, helping to address critical human needs across Sarasota County. We hope you will join us for this special day with Marlee, in celebration of the Junior League of Sarasota’s mission to advance women’s leadership for meaningful community impact through volunteer action, collaboration, and training.
The event will begin with a champagne social hour at 11am, and the luncheon will begin promptly at noon.
We anticipate a sold-out gathering to hear Marlee’s story. For any inquiries, please contact: legacyluncheon@jlsarasota.org. We look forward to seeing you at the 2025 Legacy Luncheon and appreciate your support!
